“You are my sunshine, my only sunshine. You make me happy when skies are grey…”
I tell you what… after the initial scare and shutting down for COVID lockdown, nothing could have made me more happy than to get back out on the scene by offering sunflower minis. This has been the third year offering these, and they miiiight have become my favorite to offer. There’s just something about a sea of cheery sunflowers that really lifts you up and reminds you to be happy. They’re also a symbol of hope and perseverance. Did you know that sunflowers bloom locally in the hot summer months and only last about a week before they wilt? That’s if they even get to their blooming stage! Heavy rains, strong winds, and hungry deer among other tricky nature things also play a factor in whether the gorgeous fields are successful. In other words, they’re REALLY special.
I had the opportunity to work with two different field vendors and offer double the amount of spots I’ve done previously. It was incredible seeing so many new and familiar smiling faces come out and take in the experience with me. After being locked inside, nothing could have been more gratifying than some human interaction (even from behind my mask) and outdoor freedom. We may have been pouring sweat out of every pore and crevice, but I wouldn’t trade these for anything.
